Expressions using weather words.
本周的成语跟天气有关

1. to be thunderstruck – to be amazed/stunned. He was thunderstruck when he heard that his company was going bankrupt.
[震惊的,五雷轰顶]——当他听说他的公司将要破产的时候,真是犹如五雷轰顶。

2. to snowball – to gain momentum/support. When someone has a good idea, and others join in to help, we say that the idea snowballs.
[滚雪球]——当一个人有一个好主意,其他人加入帮忙的时候,我们就说他们像滚雪球般不断得到帮助。

3. snowed under – overwhelmed with work. I have so much to do at work that I can’t even get one day off per week.? I’m totally snowed under.
[负担过重,累垮了]——我有太多的工作要做,甚至每周连一天都不能休息。我真是快被累垮了。

4. to put something away for a rainy day – to save money for bad times (loss of a job etc.). She was the type of person who wanted security, so every week she put some money away for a rainy day.
[以备不时之需]——她是那种需要安全感的人,因此每周她都存钱以备不时之需。

5. under the weather – feeling ill. He didn’t go to work yesterday since he was feeling under the weather.
[感觉不舒服]——他昨天感觉不太舒服,因此没有去上班。
