Law Society opens nominations for 2019 Bencher election

The Law Society of Ontario today opened the candidate nominations process for the 2019 Bencher election, which takes place on April 30, 2019. This election marks the first time that lawyer and paralegal Benchers will be elected simultaneously in Ontario.

As members of the Law Society’s governing board, Benchers play a critical role in the governance of the Law Society and the regulation of Ontario’s legal professions in the public interest. They serve a four-year term.

Lawyers and paralegals from all communities, practice and work areas, firm sizes and geographic locations throughout Ontario are encouraged to run as candidates.

Nomination packages are available at www.lso.ca/bencher-election-2019 and include information on the Law Society, the qualifications for candidates and nominators, candidate instructions, a nomination form, FAQs, information on the Standard Candidate Page format for the Voting Guide and a fillable Candidate Page for the Voting Guide.

Candidates have until February 8, 2019 to submit their nomination forms.

Questions regarding the election can be directed to the Office of the Elections Officer at 416-947-3404 or 1-877-947-3404 or email at bencherelection@lso.ca.
